The Peace Committee has a dual function:
1) To support the Mt. Diablo Peace Center through joint sponsorship of speakers, encouraging membership in, and promotion of Peace Center events.
2) Raise the awareness of the congregation on issues of peace. Often this will be accomplished through soliciting signatures on petitions in support of peace groups such as Peace Action and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
The Peace Center was founded by this church 41 years ago. For about 35 of those years, it functioned as a committee of the church. It is now a separate organization although its office is on our grounds. It became a 501(c) 3 organization to facilitate work with the public schools, which must observe separation of church and state, and to increase our presence in the greater community. Many of the center's programs are co-sponsored by the church in a close working relationship.
