Search Overview for the Position of Director of Lifespan Religious Education

MDUUC is doing something big this church year:  hiring a new Director of Lifespan Religious Education (DLRE).  This is among the most important initiatives that the church takes on, and your voice in this matter is critical.  The quality and depth of your faith development, and that of your children and grandchildren, depends on the outcome.   And, since the church’s religious education program often serves as the gateway portal for new members, it is not a stretch to say that the future of our church is at stake!

As this process unfolds, there will be opportunities for you to participate and influence this process.  Here are the projected milestones for the search:

  1. November:  Form a search committee and launch a congregational survey.  A Search Committee has been formed.  Its purpose is to manage an open and inclusive selection process for the new DLRE, and to make recommendations to the Senior Minister.  According to the church’s approved bylaws, “the Board of Directors, at the recommendation of the Senior Minister of the church, shall appoint all employees.”  The committee also issued a congregation-wide survey regarding DLRE qualities and aspirations that we hope you will fill out.
  2. December:  Lay the groundwork for a successful search. In December, the Search Committee prepared a job description and search criteria, and advertised the opportunity widely so as to attract a full range of candidates steeped in the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition.
