Monica joined MDUUC in 2004 and is one of the rotating chairs of the Green Group, a committee that inspires the congregation toward environmental consciousness and action (see under Social Justice, above).
I came to UUism with my head; that is because it
holds sacred every person and every living thing
and it accepts and encourages a personal spiritual path.
When I first came to MDUUC, as many newcomers,
I tip-toed in and out over some months, happy with
some things and not so happy with other things,
UNTIL I connected to a TIE group. There I got to
know the people that make up this church.
And there I began to appreciate the openness, thoughtfulness
and love of the members that still inspires me today.
After that all it took for me to join the church formally
was attending the first meeting of the yet-to-be-
formed Green Sanctuary Committee (now the Green Group).
That day I became the chairperson of the committee
and I joined the church because I saw the church's words
at the people who stepped forward to do the hard
work that changing old ways involves.
Over the past four years, this congregation has supported
our efforts to begin the process of creating sustainability
in our lives as individuals and as a faith community.
